Why You Should Still Be Listening to the Gorillaz

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

This animated quartet has sound that has transcended decades. With special features such as Jack Black and others it makes you wonder who these bizarre group of people are appearing on my screen. The British pop band, Gorillaz, was formed by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998. Truly defying the norm of sticking with one tune the band has featured so many different sounds over the years. Just a few to quote include features by Elton John, Snoop Dogg, Kali Ulchis, Mos Def and Moonchild. Some may ask how they keep their music so pure, almost stating a feeling of life in nirvana. The truth is they aren’t your everyday band they have something that most groups don’t have. They have that freedom to be who they are without holding back. Their ability to experiment with sounds that most are afraid to use makes the group that much better. When music evolves most artist fade out but this group has faced adversity each time and prevailed. They should not be forgotten or overlooked. As we prepare to enter the next year keep the band Gorillaz on your radar as they have the capability to make music that resonates globally.

Here are my recommended songs by them:

On Melancholy Hill

Humility

The Pink Phantom

Dead Butterflies

Feel Good
